Neurology & Cardiology Update

Neurology & Cardiology Update

We’ve had a big couple of weeks for Hudson with two major appointments in the last week: Neurology and Cardiology.
🧠 On the Neurology side, we were reminded that Hudson's current medication is not working for his seizures as we’d hoped, so we are now preparing for a medication change. At our appointment, our epileptologist walked us through four possible options, and together we’ve chosen a new path forward. Over the next few weeks, we’ll begin weaning off one of his current meds as we slowly introduce the new one. This is always a nerve-wracking process, and while we’re praying so hard for things to move in the right direction, we know there’s always a risk of major setbacks.
We’ve also started discussing non-medication options to add in for the future, given how stubborn Hudson's seizures have been. Ideas like the Keto Diet or Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) were brought up, and there’s a lot for us to process and learn as we continue looking for the best way to care for Hudson.
❤️ On the Cardiology side, Hudson had his second echocardiogram, and we’re so proud of how well he did! We came across some heart abnormalities a few months ago - thanks to our geneticist at University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children's Hospital, who advocated for Hudson and made sure we weren’t missing anything. While that news is very scary to hear, we’re incredibly grateful we followed through. Hudson isn’t showing any symptoms right now, and we’ve been reassured by the amazing team monitoring him that they’ll help us keep him safe if anything changes.
There’s so much going on as we look ahead, including another Boston trip in May, but one thing we’re really excited about is the return of our annual #seizethedaywithhudson event! We’ll share more details on that soon, so stay tuned!
Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers as Hudson begins this next transition. Your love and support always mean so much to all of us!
