medication decrease

medication decrease

heading into week two of a seizure med decrease like…..
last week, with the support from our near and far neurology teams, we made the decision to start the process of safely weaning hudson from one of his seizure medications.
it was a biiiiiiiig decision to make, but we felt on our hearts for various reasons that we needed to try.
he’s been on this specific medication since he was a tiny eleven weeks old.
it’s been there since the beginning,
kind of like a safety net…
but we carried with us so many questions..
  1. is it actually working for him?
  2. does he need it if it’s not specific to the type of seizures he has?
  3. is this impacting his development?
  4. are the two other medications enough?
i’m going to be honest. seizures are a beast. they leave you living on edge with constant worry and fear;
waiting. preparing. planning.
initially this medication didn’t stop his, but our neurology team at the time kept it in the mix while eventually adding in two more as our journey continued.
so, we felt the time was right for our family to give it a try.
even if it leads us in a totally different direction than expected, we are trusting His plan.
it’s both an exciting and emotional time as we navigate through this seven week process.
it means less sleep and more eyes on the monitors, but it also means we get to see even more of our little two year old boy shine through. from the awnry to the super super sweet, we are absolutely here for it.
we pray so hard this transition for hudson goes well and that His strength and protection continues to surround him.
as his parents, we may not know what the day may bring, but we know the One who brings the day.
